Circuit presentation
Traveling along the legendary National Route 7 means crossing Madagascar in all its diversity, from the cool hills of the Highlands to the sun-drenched coastline of the Mozambique Channel.
Each leg of the journey reveals a new facet of the island: the meticulous woodworking in Ambositra, the lush and mystical forest of Ranomafana, and the traditions of Ambalavao with its Antemoro paper mills and vineyards. As the kilometers pass, the landscape changes dramatically, giving way to the spectacular canyons of Isalo National Park, before gently winding down to the coast of the Far South, in Toliara.
Detailed program
Day 1: Antananarivo – Antsirabe – Ambositra
Departure for Antsirabe – Arrival in Antsirabe – City tour – Rickshaw ride – Continue on to Ambositra – Visit the craft markets in Ambositra.
Day 2: Ambositra – Antoetra
Departure for Antoetra – Hike to visit the Zafimaniry villages (traditional houses built entirely of wood) – Picnic lunch
Day 3: Antoetra – Ranomafana
Departure for Ranomafana – Arrival in Ranomafana – Night tour in Ranomafana (spotting microcapes and agile lemurs)
Day 4: Ranomafana – Ambalavao
Tour of Ranomafana National Park (spotting golden hapalemurs, giant hapalemurs, and giant bamboo trees) – departure for Ambalavao – arrival in Ambalavao
Day 5: Ambalavao – Ranohira (Isalo)
Departure for Ranohira – Arrival in Ranohira
Day 6: Ranohira (Isalo)
Tour of Isalo National Park (see the natural pools, ring-tailed lemurs, Verreaux’s sifakas, etc.) – Picnic lunch
Day 7: Ranohira – Toliara – Ankasy
Departure for Ankasy – Arrival in Ankasy
Day 8: Ankasy
Enjoy the beach—discover the traditional way of life in the Vezo fishing villages—Chance to see whales from July through September.
Day 9: Ankasy – Toliara
Departure for Toliara – Visit to the Reniala Nature Reserve – Arrival in Toliara – Tour of the city of Toliara (museum, craft market, etc.)
Day 10: Toliara – Antananarivo
Departure for Antananarivo—a 2-hour flight—Arrival in Antananarivo.
